DETROIT — CSX Transportation Inc. plans to upgrade its network in Michigan at a cost of $21 million, the Jacksonville, Fla., company said.

The railroad company owns and maintains about 840 route miles in Michigan and has key facilities in Detroit, Saginaw and Grand Rapids. The company employs 34,000 people, 1,075 in Michigan.

CSX customers represent some of Michigan’s largest industries specializing in automotive and heavy equipment manufacturing, minerals and agricultural products.
