JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX today outlined its current employee and community assistance efforts in the Gulf Coast region. They include:
— Pay and benefits through September for the approximately 300 employees directly affected by the storm, along with an additional $1,000 for each employee to assist with urgent needs.
— Temporary work assignments for all affected employees at other CSX locations, along with travel and meal allowances and a $1,250 per-month living stipend. Compensation for these assignments will be in addition to the September pay and assistance available to all affected employees.
— An estimated $300,000 or more in additional employee and community assistance. This includes a $125,000 contribution to the company’s Employee Disaster Relief Fund (EDRF), a $125,000 contribution to the American Red Cross relief efforts, and an additional dollar-for-dollar match to employee contributions made to those entities. The EDRF, a 501(c)3 organization, was established in 1992 to help employees affected by Hurricane Andrew in South Florida.
— Establishment of a 24-hour resource center (1-800-633-4067) to put affected employees in touch with assistance they need. The company also has established an assistance-related web page on www.csx.com. The site has information for employees, customers and media.
