GREENVILLE, S.C. — CSX railroad says it has “rerailed” the 12 cars involved in a mishap in Greenwood County on Wednesday.
“The operation of the 12 cars is complete,” spokesman Gary Sease said Thursday. “There’s a little bit of track that we need to repair.”
About half of the cars in the freight train were involved in a derailment on State 225. Several autos and an empty tanker with residue from a “caustic” substance caused a minor spill. It was cleaned by county and CSX crews.
No one was injured, said Sease and George McKinney, spokesman for Greenwood County.
Sease said the train, which is local, should be operational in the next 24 hours.
He said investigators didn’t know what caused the derailment.
