NEW ORLEANS — CSX Transporation will resume nonstop rail freight service on its Gulf Coast line into New Orleans in early February, the company said Wednesday.
Since Hurricane Katrina largely shut down the line on Aug. 29, CSX said it had been restoring six major bridges – including a two-mile-long bridge at Bay St. Louis, Miss. – more than 40 miles of track and its major rail yard in New Orelans.
CSX Transportation, a division of Jacksonville, Fla.-based CSX Corp., said it handles or interchanges with western railroads more than 1,000 freight cars a day in the New Orleans region.
