WASHINGTON, D. C. – Railroad operator CSX Corp. spent nearly $1.1 million to lobby on legislation dealing with the industry’s antitrust exemptions and other issues in the first quarter of the year.

The company also lobbied on various appropriations bills and on legislation dealing with energy standards and greenhouse gas emissions, security and terrorism risk insurance, according to the form posted online April 21 by the House clerk’s office.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based company spent more than $3.2 million to lobby the federal government in 2007.

Lawmakers are considering legislation, which is supported by a coalition of more than 3,500 electric, utility, chemical and manufacturing companies, that would subject railroads to stiffer antitrust standards.

Besides Congress, CSX (nyse: CSX – news – people ) lobbied the White House, Environmental Protection Agency, and the departments of Transportation, Homeland Security, Energy and Justice.
