WASHINGTON, D.C. — Freight railroad operator CSX Corp. spent nearly $1.1 million in the second quarter to lobby on federal funding for homeland security and transportation, and other issues, according to a recent disclosure report.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based company also lobbied on legislation involving environmental standards for power plants, rail infrastructure and safety, railroad investments and acquisitions by foreign entities.
The company has been engaged in a battle with activist shareholder hedge funds London-based TCI and 3G Capital, which are attempting to gain seats on the company’s board and have presented a plan to improve the railroad’s operations.
Besides Congress, CSX lobbied the Environmental Protection Agency, the departments of Homeland Security, Transportation, Energy, Justice and the Office of Management and Budget, according to the report filed July 18 with the House clerk’s office.
