SYRACUSE, N.Y. — CSX agreed today to pay the city of Oneida $114,000, the full bill for police and fire overtime shifts and other expenses stemming from a train derailment March 12, the mayor said.
City councilors refused to accept a lower offer from CSX at their Tuesday night meeting, Mayor Leo Matzke said.
CSX representative Maurice O’Connell contacted Matzke this morning after reading about the refusal in The Post-Standard and hearing television reports, Matzke said. O’Connell told the mayor the full amount is on the way.
