MARRIOTTSVILLE, Md. — No one was injured and there was no hazardous material spill when a CSX freight train derailed early yesterday near Marriottsville, a company spokesman said.

The train traveling from Cumberland to Philadelphia derailed about 2:15 a.m., according to CSX spokesman Bob Sullivan.

The train had three locomotives and 91 cars. Sullivan said 21 cars left the tracks, including a tanker carrying anhydrous ammonia that fell on its side.

Sullivan said workers were determining how best to get the car back on the track.

The site is on the Carroll County side of the Patapsco River, west of Marriottsville Road and off Henryton Road, according to Howard County Fire Department spokesman Bill Mould.

The area is densely wooded, and Mould said four-wheel-drive vehicles were being brought in to carry emergency workers to the scene.
