BUCKHEAD, Ga. — A train headed south through Buckhead derailed Monday, leaving 11 cars trackside.
The CSX merchandise train, numbered Q46014, was carrying paper and plastics when cars 16 through 27 derailed near Swords Road. According to a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the train derailed sometime around 6:45 a.m.
No injuries were reported in the incident. CSX workers were at the scene of the derailment late Monday attempting to lift the massive rail cars and repair damages to the CSX rail line.
“When we have a derailment we look at three things: operating procedure, track and actual train itself,” said Meg Scheu, media contact for CSX.
“Once they investigate all three, they’ll put together a report.”
As of press time, the investigation into the cause of the derailment was pending.
CSX is a freight transportation company based out of Jacksonville, Fla.
They have 1,600 miles of track in Georgia.
