GAITHERSBURG, MD — 4:05 p.m. Update: The MTA says the Brunswick Line has reopened. Trains are operating at reduced speeds. Delays of 10 to 15 minutes west of Gaithersburg are likely, officials said.
3:55 p.m. Update: CSX spokesman Robert Sullivan said the freight train was traveling from Philadelphia to Connellsville, Pa., when it struck a person near Gaithersburg around 1:30 p.m. The train consisted of two locomotives and 90 empty freight cars. Sullivan said he doesn’t know how fast the train was going, however, it takes such a train a mile or more to come to a stop.
