CRESAPTOWN, Md. — No one was injured after someone allegedly shot out a window on a CSX train as it traveled through the Cresaptown area on Sunday, the Cumberland Times News reported.
A CSX spokeswoman from Jacksonville, Fla., confirmed a window was shot out of a coal train’s engine at 12:27 p.m. The crew was unharmed, she added.
The train continued to Keyser, W.Va., but three additional trains were delayed.
“Everything is normal at this point,” she said Sunday evening.
The Maryland State Police at LaVale were the first investigators on the case but said late Sunday the investigation was turned over to C3I. All questions were referred to that agency.
Several attempts to reach C3I personnel were unsuccessful.
Numerous police officers scoured the roadways and woods near the Kingsford Charcoal Plant in Carpendale, W.Va., as the Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter hovered in the area.
Officers also closed down Ridgeley’s Main Street for a short time.
Two Ridgeley residents said they saw police exit their cars with guns drawn on Main Street.
The West Virginia State Police at Keyser, Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Natural Resources and Ridgeley City Police also responded to the Ridgeley area.
