TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — CSX Transportation said Tuesday it was in a holding pattern as it waited for the next move from the state on commuter rail.
CSX was supposed to build a terminal in Polk County and move several freight lines out of Orlando, but without a deal from the state legislature, the rail company said it was not going to move.
CSX spokesman Gary Sease issued a statement to News 13 Tuesday.
“CSX remains agreeable to working with state, federal and local officials to provide a cost-effective solution for commuter rail in the Orlando area, while maintaining our vital rail network to deliver goods to Floridians in a safe, efficient and environmentally sustainable manner,” Sease said.
In a letter to Gov. Crist, and U.S. representatives Corrinne Brown and John Mica, CSX chairman, president and CEO Michael Ward said their contract allowed until the end of June 2009 for legislation to pass.
The Central Florida Commuter Rail Commission was expected to meet Friday in Orlando.
