Hazmat crews near Annapolis, Md., were inspecting a CSX freight train stopped in Jessup this afternoon after railway work crews complained of feeling sick.

Battalion Chief Michael Cox, Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman, said the CSX train was northbound out of Washington, D.C., when it passed a company crew working on a section of the track near the Anacostia River bridge in Prince George’s County. The three workers began to complain of a respiratory problems about 1 p.m., but refused medical treatment.

CSX officials alerted firefighters, then stopped the train in an isolated area near Montevideo Road and shut down the rail line in both directions. MARC trains also use the track.

The train was made up of 98 cars, 14 of which were carrying acids and other hazardous material.
