JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX Transportation today announced the promotion of Kenneth R. Peifer to senior vice president- Labor Relations for CSX Transportation (CSXT), responsible for the design and execution of the rail company’s labor strategy, negotiations and policy. The appointment is effective immediately.
Peifer, formerly vice president-Labor Relations and a member of the National Carriers Conference Committee of the National Railway Labor Conference, has built an impressive record over the past 10 years as he guided CSXT’s national labor negotiations and the work of the company’s labor relations representatives in Jacksonville and the field.
“Ken holds the highest respect of both the industry’s labor negotiators and the union’s top officials,” said Michael J. Ward, chairman and CEO of CSX Corporation (NYSE: CSX – News; CSX), and president of CSXT. “He has developed some of the most progressive labor policies in the industry, and has helped develop a labor-management foundation that will contribute significantly to our key goals of improved safety, service to our customers and financial performance.”
Al Crown, CSXT’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, added that Peifer is “widely regarded as our industry’s statesman on labor matters, and he exhibits outstanding leadership qualities.”
Peifer joined CSXT in 1992, after having served in a key labor relations role for Southern Pacific Company. He joined the western carrier, now part of Union Pacific, in 1977 following positions at the Western Pacific and the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railroads. He worked in operations and completed management training with the former Baltimore & Ohio/Chesapeake and Ohio railroads, CSXT predecessors.
