(CSX issued the following news release on November 25.)
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Michael J. Ward, CSX Corporation chairman, president and chief executive officer and CSX Transportation (CSXT) president announced today that Frank E. Pursley, CSXT’s senior vice president-service design, will retire December 31, 2003. Alan P. Blumenfeld, currently president of CSX Intermodal (CSXI), will assume Pursley’s responsibilities effective January 1, 2004.
The leadership of CSXI will be announced in December.
“Frank’s contributions to CSXT and the railroad industry have been immeasurable,” said Ward. “He has made a tremendous impact through his leadership, integrity and expertise. His long career is marked by dedication to customers, commitment to employees and a focus on continuous improvement and we wish Frank all the best in his well-earned retirement.”
Pursley is a 37-year veteran of the railroad industry. He began his career in 1963 as a trainman on the Seaboard Airline Railroad. In 1969, he became a management trainee with the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and has served in a number of senior positions in the safety and operating departments.
“I have enjoyed a terrific career at CSXT and will miss my friends and colleagues. However, I know that I am leaving the company and my organization in capable hands,” said Pursley. “Alan has great business and operating expertise and will be supported by an excellent team. Together, I know they will accomplish great things.”
Ward said, “Alan’s leadership of our intermodal company, background at CSX Technology, and work in manufacturing at General Electric give him the broad experience necessary to assume this senior operating position. He will play an important role in helping lead the railroad’s efforts to lower costs, improve operations and increase customer satisfaction.”
Blumenfeld earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering and a bachelor of arts in economics from Tufts University.
