JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX Transportation announced yesterday that it helped to bring more than $1.7 billion in new plant and equipment investment and 2,284 new jobs to Florida by working with state economic development officials on 34 projects in 2001, the Florida Times-Union reported.
CSXT worked with General Electric in locating a rail-served site in Pensacola that will transport about 210 carloads of electric generator materials annually. GE is investing $50 million in capital investment, which will create 201 new jobs for the surrounding community, the railroad said in a news release.
Through its industrial development program, CSXT has helped about 750 companies locate and expand along its rail lines during the last seven years. Since 1994, CSXT has supported a total of $17.5 billion in new industrial expansion investment, creating nearly 49,000 jobs, according to the release.
CSXT, which operates the third largest railroad in the United States, is a division of Richmond, Va.-based CSX Corp.
