NEW ORLEANS, La. — Rail traffic on a major line just west of New Orleans has been halted after damage was discovered on a train bridge over the Bonnet Carre Spillway. The rail, owned by Canadian National, runs parallel to Interstate 10. The damaged section is between Kenner and LaPlace.
The damage, caused by the high water, was first noticed on Sunday afternoon by an Amtrak engineer who reported a “rough ride.” Canadian National sent inspectors and upon examination, immediately took the stretch of railway out of service.
