PIERRE — Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., hopes Congress will approve money this year for a railroad bypass around Pierre.
It would be built if the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad extends and improves its line from Wyoming to Minnesota.
Local leaders are trying to get $80 million from the federal government for the capital city project.
So far $4 million has been approved for design work.
