CLEVELAND, June 20 — July 2 is the early registration deadline for members planning to attend the BLET’s 72nd annual International Western Convention (IWC), slated for July 29-August 1 in Billings, Mont.

Arrangements Chairman Craig Gilchrist and Co-Chairman D. B. Kenner are encouraging members to register as early as possible and to bring their families to Billings.

“The IWC permits officers, members and their families to meet once a year for the exchange of information and ideas, and to renew friendships,” Brothers Gilchrist and Kenner said. “We are pleased to host the 72nd annual IWC and have chosen a modern high-rise hotel, which has recently been completely refurbished and offers guests a full-service venue.”

Members can go to the IWC website to download a PDF registration form. The early registration fee is $100; on or after July 3, the fee increases to $125 per person. Registration is available at:

The IWC Arrangements Committee has secured a discounted room rate of $99 per night (single or double bed), which is good from July 28 through August 4 for those who wish to make an extended stay. You must mention group code “LOC” when making reservations in order to receive the discounted rate. You can make reservations by calling (406) 252-7400, or you can register online at:

Pre-registration will begin on July 29 with full registration and the annual IWC golf tournament beginning the morning of July 30.

The 2012 IWC gets into full swing with opening ceremonies the morning of July 31. A BLET Safety Task Force workshop will also be held that morning, and the afternoon will be filled with a BLET closed meeting and a BLET Auxiliary open meeting.

That evening, guests may participate in a “BBQ and baseball” event, as the Billings Mustangs (a farm team for the Cincinnati Reds) take on the Great Falls Voyagers at Dehler Park. The cost of admission includes a barbecue dinner.

On August 1, members will participate in workshops for Local Chairmen, Secretary-Treasurers and Legislative Representatives. There will also be a mobilization workshop and a hazardous materials training workshop. The 2012 IWC wraps up with the annual reception and banquet on the evening of August 1.

While in Billings, members will have the opportunity to enjoy a number of entertainment options. Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, Little Bighorn Battlefield, and numerous museums are all within driving distance of downtown Billings.
