Approximately 250 delegates, members and leaders have gathered in Victoria, British Columbia, for the Teamsters Canada’s 9th Convention. Teamsters Canada President Robert Bouvier welcomed the delegates, and Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa also addressed the group on Monday, July 4.
“Our slogan for this Convention, ‘Working for you…and your family,’ recognizes the dedication of our staff members and officers from every local union across the country,” Bouvier said. “Together, they share one goal: to make sure the situation of our members, of their families and their communities continues to improve.”
Bouvier and Hoffa talked about the importance of unity to achieve better lives for working families.
“A union’s strength is its members—we must organize to grow,” Hoffa said. “Teamsters Canada has done an outstanding job organizing and their members have benefited. Your membership’s strength through its unity is an example that all unions can learn from.”
The convention will continue through Friday, July 8. Delegates will elect national executive board members as well as make amendments to Teamsters Canada bylaws.
