WHITE EARTH, N.D. — Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks near White Earth are expected to be back in service today after cleanup from a weekend derailment.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas says nine cars on a freight train derailed Sunday night about three miles west of White Earth. He says no hazardous material was released.
Mountrail County emergency manager Skip Wing says officials found just container broken, and it looked like it contained dry goods.
The freight train was traveling from Chicago to Seattle. Melonas says it derailed shortly after nine o’clock Sunday night.
He says some rail traffic had to be rerouted, and Amtrak passengers were bused around the site. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
White Earth is about 75 miles west of Minot.
