FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. — Traffic on Grand Avenue was detoured for nearly an hour around 4:20 p.m. Aug. 27 after a northbound train derailed on the 2900 block of Commerce in Franklin Park.

Nine train cars came off the tracks, police said. The train, which had a Wisconsin Central Railroad engine, was headed toward a train yard in Schiller Park at approximately 10 miles per hour.

The Franklin Park Fire Department was called to the scene to check for the presence of any hazardous materials; however, none were found.

In addition to the 9300 block of Grand Avenue being closed for about an hour, the 9300 block of Belmont Avenue was closed for about 10 minutes.
