TOPEKA, Kan. — Clean-up crews are still working to clean up a massive diesel fuel spill from last Friday. The fuel came from a Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotive that had been vandalized, television station WIBW reported.
At least 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into a dried up part of the old Shunga creek. Emergency cleanup crews have built dams to contain the area and are working to get all of the remaining water out of the creek.
They will then have to dig up the ground under the creek to ensure all the fuel remnants have been removed. Clean-up is expected to continue throughout the week.
