CLEVELAND, December 10 — BLET Division 194 in Houston, Texas, has entered its website into a competition with 43 other unions from around the world to win the title “Labor Website of the Year 2004.”
The competition is sponsored by LabourStart.org, an online news service that aims to serve the international trade union movement by collecting and disseminating information — and by assisting unions in campaigning and other ways.
Division 194 is one of 44 unions competing to win the best labor website title, and is facing competition from unions in the United States, Canada, Iraq, Australia, Germany, India, Nepal, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, among others.
In addition to BLET Division 194, other U.S. websites include: the International Brotherhood of Teamsters; International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; Service Employees International Union; Workers Independent News Service; and the AFL-CIO’s International Labor Communications Association (ILCA).
LabourStart.org has sponsored a best labor website competition each year since 1997. Voting ends on January 15, 2005 and balloting will be announced on January 16.
