HURON, S.D. — A $2 billion plan to upgrade Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad remains promising despite a wait for financing, the head of the project said.
“We want it to happen tomorrow,” Kevin Schieffer, the DM&E’s chief executive, said. “It has frustrated me that it has taken to long to happen.”
After the money comes in, the goal is to start work in the following year, he said.
Fund-raising efforts are focusing on New York, Washington and San Francisco, Schieffer said. DM&E’s board includes people from across the United States and London.
