RAPID CITY, S.D. — The federal agency that approved expansion of the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad will hold five meetings next month on the protection of historic bridges and other structures along the route.

The Surface Transportation Board will conduct a meeting in Wall from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13 at the Wall Community Center, 501 Main St.

The agency earlier approved DM&E’s plan to reconstruct 600 miles of tracks and extend its line 280 miles to Wyoming coal fields.

Based on the outcome of the public meetings, the Surface Transportation Board will prepare a treatment plan for historic structures along the railroad route.
