CLEVELAND, May 24 — In light of a warning issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation, BLE International President Don Hahs is asking all train crew members to be extra-vigilant over the Memorial Day weekend.

The DOT issued a warning on Wednesday about possible terror attacks on U.S. rail and transit systems.

Based on this warning, President Hahs is asking BLE members to be on the look out for suspicious activity, especially in the Northeast Corridor.

A DOT spokesman said that a general threat was made against subway systems, but no particular cities were targeted. Nevertheless, the DOT decided to expand its advisory to include all rail systems across the country.

Newspaper reports indicate the DOT consulted with the FBI before issuing the warning, but the FBI did not put out a matching alert or advisory.

The DOT is not advising the rail and transit systems to take any special precautions as part of its warning other than to maintain heightened awareness.
