BOSTON — Amtrak’s new Downeaster passenger train between Portland, Maine, and Boston had a good first week, with sold-out weekend runs and better-than-expected weekday business, the Boston Globe reports.

Regular rail service resumed Dec. 16 for the first time in 36 years. The two busiest trains were the earliest ones that run out of Portland, which were used by 80 to 100 passengers during the work week. The numbers peaked at capacity on the weekend, with 280 passengers.

If the numbers hold steady, Amtrak would exceed its goal of 320,000 riders for the first year.
