WINNIPEG — The driver of a truck that collided with a freight train, starting a toxic fire that forced 150 people from their homes, pleaded guilty yesterday to disobeying a railway crossing sign, the Globe and Mail reports.
Anthine Calvin LeFait, 35, of Austin, Man., was fined $500.
Mr. LeFait’s truck collided with a train May 2 near the southwestern Manitoba community of Firdale, derailing 20 cars. The fire that followed burned for three days.
