JERSEY CITY, N.J. — A dump truck collided with a light-rail train Monday, sending five people to the hospital and suspending some service on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Line.
No life-threatening injuries were reported, NJ Transit spokesman Ken Miller said.
Train service was halted in both directions between the Harborside Station in Jersey City and Hoboken for 2{ hours, and shuttle bus service was instituted while crews removed the truck and set the train’s middle section back on the track, Miller said.
Light-rail service south of Harborside remained in operation, he said.
The accident happened about 1:10 p.m. when the Hoboken-bound train was hit at Sixth Avenue, Miller said.
A total of 24 people were on the train. Four passengers and the train’s operator were taken to Jersey City Medical Center, he said. The 19 others were checked at the scene.
NJ Transit police issued a summons to truck driver Dennis Teller, 60, of Pennsylvania, for failure to obey a traffic signal, Miller said. The crossing does not have a crossing gate or bell, he said.
