WILMINGTON, N.C. — An Onslow County dump truck driver suffered minor injuries after crashing into a 17-car freight train at an unmarked crossing Wednesday.
Calvin Felix was hauling gravel through Hubert, east of Jacksonville Wednesday afternoon. His truck hit a Norfolk Southern train hauling coal and ten Abrams tanks to Camp Lejeune. Felix says he could not see the train coming from his left because of high corn stalks.
He dropped to the floor of the cab on the passenger side as the engine and 13 cars scraped the driver’s side of his rig. He suffered cuts and a bloody nose. Felix was cited for failing to yield at an intersection.
