MERIDEN, Conn. — Back in May, an Amtrak train derailed in Philadelphia, killing seven people. In February, a Metro-North train derailed north of New York City, leaving six dead. In December 2013, another Metro-North train derailed in the Bronx, killing four passengers. In May 2013, a Metro-North train crashed near Bridgeport, with 70 people injured. In 2005 and 2008, there were commuter-train crashes in California that left a total of 36 people dead.
