(The following report appeared on the Houston Chronicle website on July 6.)
HOUSTON — Eight rail cars, including two tank cars filled with dangerous chlorine, fell off the tracks in a Union Pacific rail yard today but the cars remained intact and no one was injured, spokesman Joe Arbona said.
The derailment occurred at about 5:40 a.m. in the Englewood rail yard in the 7000 block of Liberty Road, Arbona said.
No chemicals spilled, no one was injured and no evacuation of the area was called, he said.
The cause of the derailment, in the facility where train cars are moved from one track to another and formed into trains, remains under investigation, Arbona said.
The cars were back on rails by 1 p.m., he said.
