KANKAKEE, Ill. — An employee of the Norfolk Southern Railroad was killed this afternoon when he fell from a rail car operating in a rail yard near Kankakee.

Kankakee County Deputy Coroner Bob Gessner identified the victim as 40-year-old Steven Hall of Morocco, Indiana.

Gessner says Hall died while switching cars on a 13-yard train. Hall was found between two cars of the train. Gessner says he had apparently been hit by one of the train car’s wheels.

Gessner says head trauma was the preliminary cause of death.

An official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy planned for tomorrow.
