McLEANSVILLE, N.C. — Passengers escaped injury yesterday when an Amtrak train collided with a tractor-trailer.
The 55 passengers aboard the state-owned train between Raleigh and Charlotte got off and most boarded a bus to continue their trip.
Police say the truck’s driver said he stopped at the crossing, which didn’t have guards or lights, before pulling the truck forward. The train sliced the vehicle, and left the cab on one side of the tracks and the trailer on the other.
The state Highway Patrol says Mitchell Busick of Greensboro faces a charge of failure to yield.
The train engineer cut his hand on glass from the truck’s windshield.
