JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida ports, already trying to deepen their harbors for the super-size cargo container ships of the future, are also in a race to build new railroad hubs near their docks. The rail-seaport connection is important to shippers who aim to move cargo inland by rail to the Southeast. The enlargement of the Panama Canal in 2014 will bring bigger ships hauling more cargo to the East Coast from Asian trade lanes. Ports are jockeying for position.
