CLEVELAND, June 27 — The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with over 1.4 million workers, is one of the largest labor unions in the world. It is also the most diverse union in the U.S. The Teamsters represent workers in a variety of public and private industries — from airline pilots to zookeepers. There are also approximately 500,000 retired Teamster members throughout the U.S. and Canada who maintain their affiliation with the Union and support important issues for working people.

People refer to the Teamsters Union as a “trucker’s union,” but in reality trucking makes up only about 10 percent of the Union’s membership. Warehouse workers, parcel workers and public sector workers are the three largest sectors within the Teamsters. In addition, the Union represents many airline, construction and brewery/soft drink workers, and now, with the creation of the Teamsters Rail Conference, it represents over 70,000 rail workers.
