SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — Nearly 200 passengers of a Boston-bound Amtrak train have reached their destination after a four-hour delay in Rhode Island caused by mechanical problems.

Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm said a wire problem Monday morning near the Kingston station disabled an Acela train traveling from New York to Boston. It also took a second track out of service.

The breakdown occurred in a remote location and, because the wires were down on the adjoining track, a rescue train could not be dispatched to relieve the passengers.

Kulm says there’s been some temporary maintenance to fix the problem, but delays are continuing throughout the afternoon in the area of Kingston.
