KANAS CITY — Fire consumed a locomotive about 6 p.m. Wednesday at a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train yard, the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department reported.

Flames shot 25 to 30 feet in the air, and there were small explosions after contents in the engine caught fire, Battalion Chief Kevin Shirley said. Nobody was injured.

The train yard is at Argentine Boulevard and 26th Street. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage weren’t immediately known.
