POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — For city firefighter Michael Marinucci, the acrid smell of the thick, black smoke that lingered over the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge was unforgettable. Roaring flames stayed mostly hidden behind the seemingly impenetrable onyx cloud emanating from the bridge as it burned on the afternoon of May 8, 1974, he said.
