NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — Rail service is back to normal in northern New Jersey after a brush fire briefly halted Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains.
Amtrak resumed train traffic through the North Bergen area at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday after a one-hour suspension due to the fire. NJ Transit train service also resumed along the Northeast Corridor, New Jersey Coast and Midtown Direct lines.
David Barth, a battalion chief with North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, says the fire began at 1:47 p.m. and spread to both sides of the rail bed. Firefighters were still extinguishing hot spots at 4:30.
