BRADENTON, Fla. — Hazardous material crews were containing a 30-gallon spill of sulfuric acid at Norfolk Southern’s Brosnan Yard on Monday night, Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Jimmy Hartley said.
The spill was considered relatively minor, Hartley said, because the location was a railyard, not a populated area.
The toxic solvent was being contained by a contractor hired by Norfolk Southern, and firefighters were assisting, Hartley said.
Hartley said there was indication the acid leaked from a pressure valve on a rail car.
