NEW YORK — On Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Liberty State Park will host the 1st annual Jersey Central Railroad Heritage Festival. This festive day of fun will feature live interviews and audience Q&A with veteran railroad train crews who ran the trains of the Central Railroad of New Jersey.
Also featured will be miniature train rides for kids, historic railroad photos, railroad equipment demonstrations, multimedia presentations on CNJ history, music by the West Point Jazz Knights (and others), model train displays, historic railroad artifacts and memorabilia, and a presentation about future restoration plans for the old CNJ passenger terminal in Jersey City where the festival will be taking place.
History will come alive through the recollections of veteran CNJ employees during their presentations inside the historic railroad terminal where some of them worked more than 35 years ago.
The festival will conclude at 5 p.m. following a special ceremonial salute to the CNJ railroad and all those who ran its trains a generation ago.
