BISHOP, Texas — Five train cars filled with gravel derailed at a Bishop railroad crossing near Business U.S. Highway 77 and Second Street shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday morning. No one aboard the train nor near the railroad crossing was injured.
The railroad crossing was destroyed. The windshield of one driver waiting for the train to pass the intersection was also damaged when gravel inside the railroad cars flew out and landed on his car.
The train is believed to have been traveling 45 to 50 mph when some of its cars derailed. Faulty tracks are believed to have caused the accident, Bishop Police Department Patrolman Joe Henry Hernandez said.
Hernandez said that Union Pacific is investigating the accident.
