Kansas City Southern said it has halted freight service at the U.S.-Mexico border and into Monterrey because of flood damage to track from Hurricane Alex last week.

The company said it could take up to two weeks to clear congestion and move trains once rail lines are open because of damage in Monterrey, Saltillo and lines to the border.

Kansas City Southern it’s too early to estimate the financial impact of the repairs and business interruption. But the company said any impact will be reflected in its third quarter financial results.

Shares in Kansas City Southern closed Thursday at $37.14, up 87 cents.
