RENSSELAER, N.Y. — Train service out of the Capital Region has been suspended until at least noon because of heavy rain and flash flooding Wednesday.

CSX Transportation temporarily closed the busy route between here and New York after the flooding and will inspect the tracks and signal systems this morning before resuming service.

Train service is suspended for all Capital Region trains as well as those heading north from Penn Station. Amtrak is not making any alternate transportation available for travelers.

Meanwhile, warnings about possible flooding remain in effect for the eastern part of the region, including Columbia, Greene, and Rensselaer counties. Meteorologists say flooding remains a possibility in Hudson, Chatham, Catskill, and Nassau.

The National Weather Service says flooding should subside this morning.

The area was hit by downpours late Wednesday and early today.

Meteorologists say more than 2 1/2 inches fell in Albany, but areas to the east were hit harder. There are unconfirmed reports that six inches fell in Coxsackie.
