BILLINGS, Mont. — Because of heavy rains, train and highway transportation across south central Montana remained gridlocked much of Wednesday. But conditions improved as the rain eased up.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said he expected trains to start rolling on tracks between Hardin and Wyoming by 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Montana Rail Link had 26 trains parked across Montana, most of them Burlington Northern Santa Fe trains trying to detour around a closed section of track between Hardin and Lodge Grass.
MRL is on high alert after some track washed out Tuesday night eight miles east of Big Timber, halting rail traffic heading west.
