NEW YORK — The chairman and chief executive of flooring products maker Armstrong World Industries Inc. has been elected to the board of freight railroad operator Norfolk Southern Corp.
The railroad company announced Michael D. Lockhart’s election Monday.
Lockhart joined Armstrong in 2000 after serving as chairman and CEO of General Signal Corp. He previously held executive jobs at General Electric Co.
Norfolk Southern operates about 21,000 miles of track in 22 states in the East and South.
Shares of Norfolk Southern fell $3.39, or 4.8 percent, to $66.97. Freight railroad stocks fell as the broader market declined and oil prices increased.
