INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, November 4 — Brother Pat J. Williams, former General Chairman of the BLET’s BNSF (former AT&SF) General Committee of Adjustment, passed away on October 29 from complications related to a blood infection. Brother Williams was 68 years old.

In 1996, he was elected Vice General Chairman of the BLET’s BNSF (former AT&SF) General Committee of Adjustment. Brother Williams was elected General Chairman at the BNSF (former AT&SF) GCA meeting in 2002, and was subsequently reelected at triennial meetings in 2005 and 2008. In addition to his General Chairman duties, Brother Williams served the BLET’s Western General Chairmen’s Association in numerous elected offices throughout the years, including Alternate Secretary-Treasurer, First Vice Chairman, and Chairman.

“We are all saddened by the unexpected passing of Brother Pat Williams,” BLET National President Dennis R. Pierce said. “A powerful leader, Brother Williams fought relentlessly to improve the quality of life and working conditions for countless BLET members during his distinguished tenure as General Chairman. He touched the lives of many during his work as a member of the Arrangements Committee at our National Division conventions, and our Brotherhood is a better place because of his kindness and generosity. On behalf of all men and women of the BLET, I extend our most heartfelt condolences to the family of Brother Pat Williams.”
