FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Hundreds of people turned out to show an Amtrak official their support for restoring passenger train service in Fort Wayne.

The rally was held Friday at the Baker Street Station, where trains no longer come and go.

About 400 people chanted and cheered to voice their support for rail service to Amtrak senior government affairs officer Derrick James.

James says Amtrak is committed to working with state officials to restore service to Fort Wayne. He says President Barack Obama’s administration is sympathetic to rail transportation.

Other speakers at the rally urged the audience to send letters and e-mails pressuring their legislators and Gov. Mitch Daniels to appropriate the money needed for engineering work.
